The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
