Pat Cummins Set to Play a Key Part in the Ashes

Pat Cummins bowling

Pat Cummins has claimed 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an stellar bowling average.

Australia's chief selector the selector has declared that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might sit out due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.

Previous updates from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the Test matches kicking off on November 21 in Western Australia.

Bailey expressed that the captain is progressing and remained hopeful about the prospects of participating.

"It's clear that time is getting short and multiple considerations around that, aside from the back issue, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a key capacity. Hopefully from the opening match. If not, then we'll pick it up."

Injury History

The captain missed the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand recently after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.

There is a track record of spinal problems, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons causing him to miss multiple domestic campaigns in four years.

Cummins stated he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his comeback strategy to make the squad for the contest.

The selector indicated that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his recovery but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the initial match.

Contingency Plans

If he's unavailable, veteran batsman Smith will assume leadership.

The talented all-rounder was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their one-day international series against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.

Bailey described it as a "slight concern and stated that he'll feature in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."

"We put so much time has gone into developing the strategy for him to be available for the opening match as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the initial matches in any case. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
